Somewhere in Caracas, in a place whose name I do not care to remember, something has been cooking for a not very long time… Backroom Caracas: a place for experimentation, trial and error, and clean sweeps.
With the aim of promoting creative entrepreneurship and spaces of convergence, Backroom Caracas is proud to announce and invite you to En un Lugar de la Mancha [Somewhere In the Stain]—an ephemeral experience to celebrate the launch of our first line of t-shirts designed by Gaëlle Smits—. Alejandro Méndez, Ana Mirabal, and Eduardo Molea will collaborate in the installation.
The stain––“la mancha”––made gesture sums up the statement that we defend today: Whoever is making, is daring, getting stained—refusing to get by unsoiled by the world.
Gaëlle Smits is a Belgian-born fashion designer. She graduated from the ENSAV La Cambre School in Brussels and has worked for some of the best fashion houses in Milan and Paris (Balenciaga, Max Mara, and Thierry Mugler). Between 2013 and 2017, she settled in Venezuela. She was museographer and creative director of Backroom Caracas.
